The do's and don't's of a News Bulletin

News gathering and Production is a convoluted task but the most sensitive aspect is preparing a New Bulletin. Therefore, it is essential for media trainees to get familiar with basic requisites involved in preparing a balanced news bulletin.

Recently, the Media and journalism Club at Haque Academy invited Syed Wahid Ashraf, Input Producer, CNBC Pakistan, to talk about his experience of live news, preparing the run-down and the bulletin board. It certainly requires prudence and acumen with regards to current affairs. To sift through the piles of news coming from News agencies, correspondents, reporters from both home and abroad makes this job rather complex. It is the job of the input producer to decide what news is most important and also what the public will respond to best.
A bulletin board for hourly news consists of short punchy news, concise and to the point.

A News bulletin should include:

1. Two or three stories of regional development

2. Story on Political development

3. Common-man package / human-interest story, relatable to the public

4. business and economic update

5. One to two international stories.

6. There should also be a light story, or a 'fluff piece'

7. Brief sports update

8. Gossip or entertainment news

9. Weather report/exclusive report

The key to a good bulletin board is to attain a balance. Sifting through the news that you think has become redundant or not necessary at the time. The person making the board should also confirm his sources through further research.
